Hello there! Here at The Dearne Pheasant, we’re very excited about visitors to our site - we’re a small indie publication so every supporter counts!
We love Dearne Valley and wanted to share our passion for stories with you - our wonderful, local readership. Whether you’re into crime, romance or sci-fi, we have a story for you!

Every issue is packed with a variety of fiction, including our drama series, “Sophie’s World”, which follows newly-single, 40-something Sophie’s exploration of internet dating (not going as well as hoped), co-parenting (also not going as well as hoped), reconnecting with old friends (and wine.. going pretty great, actually) and dealing with her elderly parents who can’t quite believe she’s got herself into such a mess ‘at her age’ (can really only be described as going absolutely dreadfully). “Sophie’s World” can always be found on the last page of our magazine - just inside the back cover!
If you missed it in print, don’t forget to check out “Ask Alice!” when you look through our back issues - our resident 8-year-old agony aunt is happy to advise on problems such as which outfit to wear, what to cook for fussy eaters or what to call the new family dog! But remember, she’s only 8 so she probably can’t advise you on how to consolidate your outstanding loans or effectively deal with a grumpy spouse!
